Lunar Jim

We have a new favorite morning TV show around the Bussey household. It's Lunar Jim. So to keep everyone in the loop here is the show:

The Cast

It has three people and two robots living on Moona Luna. There's the leader and title character Lunar Jim. He's tag line is "Let's get Lunar!".

Then there is Ripple the engineer and Eco farmer. A moon base you can see having the engineer. It's kind a hard to outsource that work. But a farmer? Yup. They've got Betsy the cow and crops in a a dome. Plus there are many strange plants on the moon. Didn't you know?

Then comes Rover the robotic dog. He's Lunar Jim's sidekick. Apparently only TED and Jim can understand his noises. Go figure. Whenever Jim heads out on a lunar adventure he takes Rover with him. They slide down a tube to where robotic arms put on Jim's gloves and helmet; and an a polisher cleans Rover's eyes or goggles. The funniest part about Rover his built in fax machine. Flash light eyes I can get. But fax machine?!?!

Then there is TED the robotic helper who feels he can do everything better. He's the lovable dofus that helps set up the mystery and adventures on Moona Luna.

The Shows

Each episode (25 minutes) is two smaller shows. There's usually a problem setup in the first minute or so. From there Jim and the gang investigate. This give lots of time for the kids to figure out the mystery before Jim solves it.

Summary

All in all it's a fun show. The animation style reminds me of something like Bob the Builder. In fact I can see many similarities between the two. Like many shows it tries to play up it's educational side. Sure the kids seem problem solving and facing mysteries. But it's no Sesame Street.

Regardless it's a fun little show. The two episodes in one seem to keep BigE's attention. They're just long enough to have a little story with some adventures and twists while not being too long that he gets distracted.

How to unwind

After a couple of days of daycare and a late night you veg out ...
Well what luck. As the TV turns on I realize its been left on Treehouse AND the Backyardigans just started.

I should point out a new favorite. The "Cold Juice" drink. Take any juice, no matter how cold, add to a glass with ice. Or Juice on the rocks as the adults might call it.

BigE spotted me doing this to some warm juice and that was it. I must have "Cold Juice"

Backyardigans: The Musical passing as a Cartoon

BigE is really loving the Backyardigans these days. It's a really great show. Now you don't learn a language or anything. But you do pick up a tune and some new dance moves.

Every episode starts with the gang in their backyard. Then as soon as the theme for the show is set their imaginations kick in and your transported to the swamp, safari, artic, desert or where ever they're headed for the show.

Odds are they've been singing and dancing by the time you get this far. The current favorite is episode #17 "Race around the world".

This finally supplanted episode #13 "Polka Dance Party". Polka playing cowboys heading to Cheyenne was a big hit. I don't recall seeing any accordions in any spaghetti western. Or a drummer floating down the river on a raft playing polka. Or those dance moves.

Now for all casual fans it's important to know the cast. They are:

  • Pablo the penguin

  • Tyrone the Moose

  • Tasha the Hippo

  • Uniqua the ???

  • Austin the Kangaroo

Gardening

Today we tilled the soil in the vegetable garden. After getting BigE his own shovel we decide to get the hoe. Fortunately BigE knows how to use it because of an episode of Max & Ruby. Now who says cartoons can't be educational.

Max is Ruby's trouble making little brother. Ruby seems to take care of the pair without any parental units anywhere to be found. She makes lunch, tends the garden, takes Max on the bus to their grandmothers. Well just about everything. Along the way most of the calamity ensues when Max heads off on his own to reap destruction. Apparently at some point this happened while Ruby was working the hoe.
